We can boil down laser monitoring to two basic approaches:
- Full-feature: PC software with a large monitor, rich features, ample memory, but stationary
- Versatile: portable, easy to use, but small or no screen, fewer features available
The Centauri power meter has the best of both worlds. It’s not a full PC of course, but has nearly the same feature set as our StarLab software, with a large, 7” touch screen.
Likewise, it might not be as simple to use a dumb probe, but of course it offers many more features, and it is pretty intuitive and easy to use.
It’s not hard to see that Centauri offers a great in-between approach, but why compromise at all? It is now compatible with StarLab so you can enjoy the flexibility of a portable power meter when you need it, while using the PC software when you want the full screen or remote capabilities that offers.
As a side benefit, StarLab 3.40 works with all of Ophir’s laser power meters and PC interfaces, so you can compare channels from Centauri side-by-side with other meter inputs.
Features
With both StarLab and Centauri you can display measurements as:
- Line plots
- Histograms
- Bar charts
- Simulated analog needles
Advanced measurement processing functions include:
- Conditioning (average, offset subtraction, scale factor)
- Power / energy density
