We recently had a virtual coffee chat with Shai Luria, our senior quality assurance manger, to learn about the impact of his work.

Tell us a little about yourself – how long have you been working for Ophir? What did you do before joining the company?

After graduating as an electro-optics practical engineer in 1994, I joined the quality control team in Ophir and a few years later, became a quality manager. In 2001, I left Ophir to work as a quality manager engineer in start-up companies and corporates such as HP and BAE Systems.
In 2020, after 20 years I came back to Ophir, to replace the previous quality manager ( Who amusingly, was my manager in one of my past jobs) .
Today I can safely say I couldn’t be happier to return to my home, family and friends at Ophir enriched with all the experience and tools I have gained over the years.

What’s the best aspect of the work you do?

As I see it, the best aspect of working as a quality engineer manager is the fact that I get to work closely with all of the departments in Ophir e.g, marketing, R&D, engineering and operations. I also enjoy working with customers, better understand their needs and how they typically use our products, allowing me to focus on those areas to ensure we are incorporating that in our testing to ensure and increase customer satisfaction.

What aspect in your job you find most satisfying?

One of the most challenging aspects which I also find the most satisfying is working in coordination with Ophir’s worldwide team.
Since Ophir is a global company we’re required to learn about the working processes of Ophir branches in each territory including: manufacturers, assembly processes, service centers and more.
Working as a united team to solve complex problems in different diverse fields, fulfills me with great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.

What would you define as Ophir’s most significant strength?

Ophir faces great challenges and without good teamwork and support among workers in all departments (marketing, sales, development, engineering, operation and quality) we wouldn’t be able to meet the requirements and goals of both management and customers.

Tell us about some of your hobbies/interests outside of work.

Well, actually I’m really into sports – I play and watch football (I’m a big fan of Manchester United), I do power walks and enjoy occasional scuba diving sessions.
